Interwoven with the Easter theme of Christ’s supreme sacrifice for love, the stories of these four people unfold. Did love and sacrifice survive from then until now? Was this concept more meaningful in 1942 than in 1999?

Seth believes that love is duty, and responsibility. He sees love as a sacred obligation. It is his decision that sets the chain of events in motion. Seth sets aside his own plans for a while to ease the mind of his dying father. Cari sees this as a rejection of her love.
